Cell-free DNA as a promising marker for risk stratification of pulmonary embolism

چکیده
Arnalich and colleagues reported an interesting clinical study that evaluated cell-free plasma mitochondrial and nuclear DNA concentrations in patients with pulmonary embolism (PE) [1]. They found increased circulating mitochondrial and nuclear DNA levels, as well as alterations in other cardiac biomarkers (heart-type fatty acidbinding protein and troponin I) in patients with massive PE compared with those found in patients with submassive PE [1]. Importantly, all these biomarkers were found at higher concentrations in fatal massive PE than in nonfatal PE [1]. I would like to add experimental information associating cell-free DNA and acute pulmonary thromboembolism (APT). Experimental evidence showed that cell-free DNA concentrations increase in proportion to the severity of experimental APT [2]. In addition, these previous findings suggest that lysed cells from the thrombi are

Prognostic Impact of Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction Risk Index on Hospitalization Mortality of Patient with Acute Pulmonary Embolism
Introduction: Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is one of the deadly cardiovascular diseases. One of the indexes proposed in these patients for risk stratification is the Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) risk index (TRI), which includes three parameters of systolic blood pressure, age, and heart rate. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of TRI on in-hospit...
متن کاملP-244: Analysis of Genomic and Cell Free DNA of A let-7 microRNA Binding Site of KRAS Gene Polymorphisms in Endometriosis
Background: Endometriosis is one of the most common benign gynecological diseases which is characterized by endometriallike tissue growing outside the uterine cavity. Although the pathology of endometriosis remains unknown, the genetic predisposition plays an apparent role. Several genes have been contributed to endometriosis, but it seems KRAS has a crucial role, because its activation results...
متن کاملModern treatment of pulmonary embolism.
Modern treatment of acute pulmonary embolism requires rapid and accurate diagnosis followed by risk stratification to devise an optimal management strategy. Patients at low risk have good outcomes simply with intensive anticoagulation treatment. Higher-risk patients may require more aggressive intervention with thrombolysis or embolectomy. Clinical risk factors for an adverse outcome include in...
متن کاملPulmonary Embolism with Abdominal Pain and ST Elevation: A Case Report
Pulmonary embolism is considered as a great masquerader due to its frequent nonspecific signs and symptoms. Typically pulmonary embolism is under-diagnosed or over-diagnosed. In this study a patient with pulmonary embolism is reported in which the patient exhibited two unusual manifestations namely; right upper quadrant abdominal pain and ST-T elevation in anterior precordial leads. Due to the ...
متن کاملHeart-type fatty acid-binding protein for risk assessment of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.
Heart-type fatty acid-binding protein (H-FABP) is a reliable marker of myocardial injury and was recently identified as a predictor of outcome in acute pulmonary embolism. The aim of the present study was to investigate the prognostic value of H-FABP in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). In total, 93 consecutive patients with CTEPH were studied. During long-term follow-up (m...
